England Squad For Wales and N. Ireland Qualifiers - A Couple of Surprises !

As posted on CNN and elsewhere, the England squad for the next couple of qualifying games has been announced today.

David James has unsurprisingly been dropped as has Glen Johnson - who, frankly, has never been good enough to play for England ever.

That's the good news - the surprising news is that Charlton's Luke Young and Stephen Warnock of Liverpool have been called up. I've nothing against either player but um, what's the point of adding more new faces at this stage. Neither of these guys are truly international class defenders and neither are likely to figure in the World Cup proper, so - in my not so humble opinion - it just devalues the worth of an England cap to bring in players like this.

I know the likes of Gary Neville and Wayne Bridge are injured, but even so...it seems like every English player in the Premiership gets a turn at being an England player.

Full Squad as follows:

Keepers: Robinson, Green, Kirkland
Defenders: P Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Young, Warnock, A. Cole, Carragher, Upson,
Midfield: Beckham,Lampard, J. Cole, Hargreaves, Richardson, Jenas, Gerrard, Wright-Phillips, Carrick
Fowards: Rooney, Owen, Defoe, A. Johnson, D. Bent
Digg!
