Italy Win The 2006 World Cup
After extra time - the highlight of which was a magnificient headbutt by Zidane - and penalties, Italy defeated France to win the 2006 World Cup Final. It wasn't a classic match by any standards, but Zidane's headbutt on Materazzi made it all worthwhile.
I know I should be joining in the chorus of 'you just can't do that kind of thing in professional football' and 'what a sad end to a brilliant career' but, sod it. I thought it was great. If you want to hear self-righteous bleating about it, then the BBC pundits view is definitely for you .
Personally, while as clear a sending off as you are ever going to see, I really don't see why so much fuss is made over this type of incident. Players get annoyed, frustrated and angry and sometimes they lose their tempers. C'est La Vie. It's not serial murder, genocide or that Sandi Thom single, it's really not a hanging offence.
